Mechanisms of Glucocorticoid Receptor Actions
Glucocorticoids are steroid hormones that affect many aspects of mammalian physiology. Because of their potent anti-inflammatory activity glucocorticoids are also frequently used to treat various inflammatory diseases. The long-term goal of our research is to elucidate the mechanisms underlying the effects of glucocorticoids on energy homeostasis and inflammatory response. Our studies apply a combinatorial approach that includes biochemistry, genetics, chemistry and physiology, to dissect the fundamental mechanisms of physiological processes and to develop novel strategies for therapeutic intervention.
