Jon Dempersmier

I'm from:
Billings, Montana, right in the middle of big sky country.
What brought me here:
My research interests as an undergraduate researcher varied greatly including metabolism, metalloproteins, transcriptional regulation, and biochemistry in general. I picked the closest crossroads of all of my interests: using biochemical techniques to identify transcriptional regulation of metabolism. Also, Berkeley is a lot like where I did my undergraduate work at the University of Montana in Missoula.
Current stage in program:
3rd year Comparative Biochemistry. Hei Sook Lab.
Outside of lab I love:
My one true love is football. I played strong safety and wide receiver in high school and now, as an armchair quarterback, I follow the Seattle Seahawks, Tennessee Titans, Miami Dolphins, Cal Bears, Oregon Ducks, Montana Grizzlies, and even my high school team, the Billings West High Golden Bears. I also enjoy extreme sports like snowboarding, skydiving, bungie jumping, riding roller coasters, white water rafting and paintball; organized sports of all types; and the great outdoors whether it be hiking, fishing, biking, or horseback riding. I also enjoy being social especially when good conversation and a good beer are involved.
