James Olzmann is one of nine young UC Berkeley faculty members to be awarded the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE), the highest honor bestowed by the U.S. government on scientists and engineers in the early stages of their careers. President Donald J. Trump made the announcement last week.
Olzmann studies how the body’s cells store lipids, such as fat, in subcellular compartments called lipid droplets. His research provides insight into the development of prevalent metabolic diseases and cancer. He was nominated for the PECASE by the Department of Health and Human Services.
