Congratulations to Güneş Parlakgül, MD, an adjunct assistant professor in the Department of Nutritional Sciences and Dietetics, on receiving a 2024 Career Award for Medical Scientists by the Burroughs Wellcome Fund.

The program supports outstanding physician-scientists at the early stages of their careers, enabling them to bridge advanced postdoctoral or fellowship training and the early years of faculty service.

This year, the program will grant awards to 13 researchers, each receiving a five-year grant totaling $700,000. The funds will support their research efforts and career development in the biomedical sciences, encouraging innovation and fostering future leaders in the field.

Parlakgul’s research investigates how subcellular organization regulates cellular function and metabolism at tissue and organism level, specifically focusing on deciphering the role of endoplasmic reticulum structure in fatty liver disease.
